Search Engine Optimization
It’s nice to have a pretty website with flashy buttons and graphics that stand out. Although a beautiful website will go a long way in impressing your potential customers, it will not do a lot of good if aren't listed on the search engines. Since most web surfers only click on websites listed at the top half of the first page of search results, having a pretty web site is only a small part of the equation to a successful online presence. Your page must be favorable in the eyes of the search engines or you simply will be out in the middle of the world wide web’s “no man’s land.”
Businesses are quickly crowding the internet. Now more than any other time in the history of the internet, optimizing your site is almost the only way you will see results. Since it’s a lot cheaper to build a search engine friendly site initially, rather than down the road, make sure you hire a web designer who has the knowledge to do so.
Most web designers who optimize sites for search engines will charge more for their designs; it is well worth the extra cost. The reason it costs more is because it is a time consuming process. Web designers who do a good job with optimization will research the best keywords, descriptions, titles and content to use on your site. They will research what your competitor’s keywords and content are and try to find a niche for your business.
Also, professional web designers will never guarantee that your site will be first or second on any search engine. In fact, anyone who says they will guarantee you a spot on an organic search engine result is not being honest. No one can buy a spot on Google’s organic search results… it is earned and takes a lot of time and patience.
