Many businesses starting out opt for a simple, template based website that can be built “overnight.” Many hosting plans offer this easy route and will advertise that your site can be up and running in “less than 3 hours” etc., etc. Although this may sound tempting, you may actually be driving customers away by going this route.
Generic templates produce a generic looking website. A custom designed site sets your business apart from your competitors. Generic templates often produce bad coding and most of them aren’t built in a way that will allow your site to be search engine optimized. If you have gone this route and you don't feel your website is listed as high on search engines as it should be, consider having a professional web designer build and optimize your site. It is a worthwhile investment.
Your online customer’s first impression of your business is the home page of your site. If it looks just like the other guy’s down the block, it shows that you have not taken the time to build a professional site and is a direct reflection of your business.
